This is a great rare antique (1896/1897) Winchester in untouched original condition with most all of the factory finishes. Fresh to market..this gun has not been advertised previously.
This ANTIQUE Extra Lightweight rifle is in .30WCF with an excellent bright bore. Extra lightweight Winchesters are scarce but this configuration of 26″ full octagon with FULL magazine is the toughest to find and the best looking!! Most lightweight guns were ordered with shorter barrels and shorter magazines…this is a true exception. Takedown is still tight as new…no wobble.
Deluxe checkered walnut buttstock & forend with “oil finish” as per Cody record…another scarce option. NO cracks, splits, chips or extra holes. Checkering still sharp to the touch. This rifle has the thinnest forend I have ever seen on an 1894 extra-lightweight…it is profiled in very dramatically from the receiver to reduced weight.
This gun still retains the majority of it’s factory blue on receiver, barrel and tube. Bottom of receiver gone to thin blue/brown at carry point.Traces of color on lever. The gun was not carried much but did have some poor storage when it was left un-oiled and developed some surface freckling. Some small minor light tool marks arounf takedown ring. Screws are mostly untouched and far above average condition. Spots of “cloudiness” in original blue on areas of barrel but still deeo and bright. Most all blue remains on barrel & mag tube.
Excellent bright bore, strong lands& grooves…I rate it as an 8.5 out of 10….far above average for an antique WInchester rifle. Special & correct Lyman 21 receiver sight. There is much dried grease under the sight which I have not removed.
This is a great opportunity to purchase a great deluxe 1894 in a scarce configuration… priced to sell quickly.
